Hold on to Your Hats - Hurricane Florence is Coming to Town

Hold on to Your Hats - Hurricane Florence is Coming to Town

Hurricane Florence is on her way. What will her impact be?

Last year this time, Georgia was being battered by Hurricane Irma, a Category 5 hurricane that impacted the economy to the tune of $100 billion, and property damages at nearly $300 billion. Amidst the wreckage, were 102 individuals who lost more than their homes; they lost their lives. We were saddened at such loss, especially such a short time after the devastation of Hurricane Harvey. Our own Rusty Ledford (Kim and Lin’s son-in-law) spent time in Texas volunteering there at the beginning of September, bringing back stories of loss and devastation. (see When Irma visited Lake Oconee here) and (Local Boy Done Good – A Hurricane Harvey Story here).

Coastal areas see a lot of weather action, and it would be difficult to find someone, even in a large crowd, who wasn’t impacted in some way by a hurricane or natural disaster. Even today, Georgia’s Lake Country is seeing an influx of visitors fleeing Hurricane Florence, the storm that, although only a Category 1, has already taken two lives since it made landfall just this morning.

Yesterday we spoke to a very nice lady who is coordinating a boat show in Milledgeville. Last year, her show was cancelled due to Irma showing up, and it’s coincidental that this year’s show is being planned amidst news of Hurricane Florence.

The good news is that the event isn’t until September 29, so Florence will be long gone by then. If you’re in town that weekend, you may just want to mark your calendars to mosey on down to Milledgeville to catch this event – and it’s FREE.

Between the hours of 10am and 3pm, Lake Sinclair Wooden Boat enthusiasts and the Blue Ridge Chapter of the Classic and Antique Boat Society (ACBS) will be hosting a display of 25-30 antique wooden boats from around the Southeast at the Little River Park Marina. They’ll also have vendors including BBQ, unique lake living gifts & home accessories items from Eclectic, custom carved lake maps from Custom Silhouettes, ship salvage items, face painting for the kids and more. It sounds like a great time, and might be just what the lake area needs to take our minds off of the storms!

While you’re in Milledgeville, take a look at the available homes for sale HERE. FABULOUS lakefront properties abound! Give us a call if you see something you like. (706) 454-1621
