Cuscowilla is such a funny name isn’t? I bet you’re wondering where in the world a name like Cuscowilla came from. Here’s a little background: Lake Oconee hasn’t been around forever, in fact it’s a fairly new lake built by Georgia Power in 1979. Long, long before Lake Oconee was built there was a small river that the local Indian tribes called the Okoni River. One specific village that settled on the river was named Cuscowilla and there you have it, the history behind the name Cuscowilla.
Now for the real reason you came to read to this post.
Cuscowilla is located in Eatonton, Georgia – a little over 20 miles off exit 114 in Madison, Georgia. They have 700 community acres and 289 homes. Coming directly from their brochure “Towering pines, expansive fields of native Bluestein grass and the shimmering water from Lake Oconee combine to create a serene landscape” Um, how could you resist that?!
Cuscowilla is one of the several golf communities in the Lake Oconee area. When you first go through Cuscowilla you will notice how many people are outside enjoying the day – kids riding their bikes along the road, parents going for a jog, golfers cruising around in their carts, people working in their yard – it’s very inviting! Not only are the neighbors super friendly, but they offer SO MANY awesome amenities. One such amenity, probably the most important to some, is their 18-hole, championship, Crenshaw and Coore designed golf course. Built in 1998, this course was just recognized in Golf Week as #21 Best Residential Golf Course in U.S. and listed in the Top 100 Modern Courses in the U.S. This course is not for the golf weary as it’s a very challenging course. However, for those of us who are not such great golfers, the scenery could keep us entertained while we search for our ball. Many of the holes are located right on the lake, so the views are awesome! There are also practice greens, a driving range and a Golf Shop. When you’re done golfing you can head over to the Waterside restaurant that overlooks the lake and grab something delicious to eat! Cuscowilla also has TWO lakefront pools with barbecue grills, tennis courts, walking trails, and a basketball court!
