Bourbon Tasting Area at Madison Derby Day 2017
Hidden in big hats and under the shade of oak trees is a noteworthy cause. Each year the residents of Madison, Georgia come together to support the Madison-Morgan conservancy. Madison Derby Day raises money to help educate the public on how important conservation is, specifically for historic areas and farmland.
Each year Madison holds Derby Day where attendees get to watch the Kentucky Derby and participate in derby related events. One such event, the derby dash, requires dressed-up jockeys to jump over horse barrels and play horseshoes as they race around the course. The most popular event is the bourbon tasting, where the participants can try different bourbons and the very southern, Mint Julep. Other fun events include a live auction and best hat contest.
The event is very popular and some would say Madison’s “initiation event,” if you are new to Morgan County.
